We are Losing our Home

 

San Salvador Home should be celebrating it's 90th birthday, instead we were informed by the owners that the property is being sold for commercial development, and that we have to vacate the property by the end of 2026. Instead of celebrating our achievements,  we have to close our doors and find alternative accommodation for our 58 residents, and 45 people with disabilities from the community, who attend the protective workshop on a daily basis. Many of our residents have lived at San Salvador Home for most of their lives, and some have no families or anywhere else to go.

After searching for an appropriate place that can accommodate all, a very difficult decision had to be taken by management to divide the residents in two groups, according to the level of care they need. The group who need high care, will be moved to Little Eden in Bapsfontein in November 2026. The remaining residents will be relocated to another site in Kyalami. However, we still need additional funds to build a new Home for them, and to renovate a building where we can run the Protective Workshop / Community Hub from. Only then can the remaining group and workshop attendees be relocated safely to their new, and hopefully "forever home".

Moving the residents will be a complicated and expensive process.
